This mouse test checks the four things that fail on a mouse: buttons, the scroll wheel, the polling rate and switch chatter. Click every button, scroll and move in circles inside the panel. Each button lights while held; the result block names the worst finding and what to do about it.

How to read the readings

ReadingPassMarginalFault
Buttonsevery button lights once per press—a button never lights, or lights twice
Chatter0 bounces in 100 clicks1–2 bounces3 or more
Wheelno reversed notchesup to 2 % reversedover 2 % reversed
Polling rate≥ 90 % of windows on nominal10–30 % a step lowerover 30 % lower or long dropouts

For each reading in depth, use the dedicated instruments: polling rate, double click, buttons and scroll wheel.

What a browser cannot measure

  • Click latency and lift-off distance cannot be measured without external hardware.
  • The polling rate is what the browser receives; Safari only sees one event per frame.
  • Buttons above the fifth and vendor macro keys are not exposed to web pages.

Questions

How do I test my mouse online?

Open this page, then click every button, scroll the wheel both ways and move the mouse in fast circles inside the panel. The result block shows the worst problem found.

Can a browser detect a broken mouse?

It can detect most common faults: dead buttons, double clicks from switch chatter, a jumping scroll wheel and an unstable polling rate. It cannot measure click latency or lift-off distance.

Does the test send my clicks anywhere?

No. The panel reads events inside this tab, and the readings are never part of any request. You can confirm it in your browser's developer tools on the Network tab: nothing leaves the page while you test.

Method and algorithm version

Algorithm version 1 (2026-10). The panel runs the same engines as the dedicated instruments with their default thresholds. See method.
